This mural, on the left wall of the sanctuary, depicts Jesus being taken down from the cross, and being laid in the arms of his mother.

Adam and Eve, eating from the forbidden fruit, are painted in the background.  The peacock in the foreground symbolizes royalty and immortality, gained for us by Christ’s victory over death through his crucifixion.

Lord Jesus, placed in the arms of your Mother, the image of our Mother the Church! As we contemplate the figure of the Pietà we learn devotion to the “yes” of love; we learn surrender and acceptance, trust and practical concern, a tender heart which restores life and awakens joy.
