BECOMING CATHOLIC
If you are interested in journeying through OCIA, you will need to register first. Classes are held at Sacred Heart Church on Sundays from 12:30 to 2 p.m and are only held in English. If you have any questions or concerns about the process, you can contact the main office.
Classes are also open to anyone who wishes to learn more about their faith. To all the adults we ask you to make this commitment to work better as a team and be able to support you with the help of God:
-
I will attend class on time every week. There will be a 15-minute tardy tolerance, after this time the door will be closed and will remain closed, up until departure time.
-
The participant is only allowed to miss up to 3 classes, after that they must repeat the year.
-
If I am not currently registered at this parish, I commit myself to register and use the offertory envelopes.
-
I must Attend Mass every Sunday during the morning masses or Saturday in the afternoon at this parish. You will receive an envelope that will be stamped when they enter Mass and then must turn in the envelope after Mass has ended.
-
Each adult is responsible to Memorize the Basic Prayers given to you on a laminated sheet at the beginning of the year. There will be monthly testing to verify the progress of each person.
-
Confirmation students may have only one Sponsor, the sponsor must be married by the church with their actual “partner,” have received the sacraments of Baptism, Communion, Confirmation and be practicing the faith regularly on Sunday at their parish.
-
You must turn in the Sponsor form for Confirmation no later than January 24, 2026, to the Director of Religious Education.
-
There will be a Mandatory retreat for all adults and their sponsors that are registered in our program.
-
Each adult must complete 25 hours of community service. These hours will need to be completed at one of the ministries of the parish. The adult can sign up with the director of religious education.
-
Confirmation students must research and discern a patron saint for their Confirmation. Each person will receive questions that they need to answer about their chosen saint. This document needs to be handed in no later than January 27, 2026, to the director of religious education.
-
You must report any phone number changes you make to the Religious Education office; it is important to maintain contact between us in case of an emergency.
-
Once you have registered, there are no refunds, even if you do not start class.
-
If the rules or deadlines for turning in documents are not followed, the adult can be terminated without any reimbursement.
